Black Girls and Women in STEM – We See You!

There is no denying that women are prominent players in the world of STEM. Although history has turned its backs on females pursuing a career in science, that hasn’t stopped women from making great strides in the field. The past couple of years we’ve seen great improvements in amplifying women in the STEM world. That’s why this National STEM Day we’ve chosen to highlight two of our smart, intelligent female clients whose passions for STEM pour out not only in their daily lives, but also in their books.

It’s always wonderful to see girls getting involved in STEM at a young age. Meet our client Tamara Brockington, a teen science enthusiast. Her book, The Crystals Are All Around Us, shares the naturally amazing makeup of crystals as well as their use to promote a positive lifestyle. Her high performing science projects and academic achievements have earned her coverage in the local paper. Tamara is a graduate of the Lotus Academy and a participant in the 2019 Temple University College of Science & Technology Greater Philadelphia Science Camp (GPSC). She currently resides in Philadelphia, PA with her family and is an 8th grade scholar at The Waldorf School of Philadelphia.

Meet Susanne Tedrick, an infrastructure specialist for Azure, Microsoft’s cloud computing platform. In her work,  Susanne helps her clients address their needs and  challenges when migrating their existing infrastructure and applications to the cloud. She previously worked as a technical specialist for IBM Cloud.  Susanne is fiercely committed to increasing  diversity, equity and inclusion within the tech industry. Susanne is the author of the critically acclaimed Women of Color in Tech: A Blueprint  for Inspiring and Mentoring the Next Generation of  Technology Innovators for publisher John Wiley & Sons  (2020) and performs community service work for a  several non-profits, including serving as Vice-Chair of  the Advancing Tech Talent and Diversity Executive Council for CompTIA and coalition member for  NPower’s Command Shift initiative. She is the winner of CompTIA’s 2020 Diversity Technology Leader Spotlight Award, for her advocacy for increased diversity, equity, and inclusion in the tech industry. Susanne is also the host of Wiley’s “Diversity in Tech” webinar series.

Overall, we couldn’t be prouder of our clients Tamara and Susanne. Our hats go off to these hardworking authors. Check out their books on Amazon. And remember, it’s never too late or early to pursue your love of science, technology, engineering or mathematics. The world needs you.
